Startups are a completely different kettle of fish compared to established businesses.
I also think they’re a lot more exciting!
In a startup you have to be able to justify every pound you spend. You can rarely just spend money on a whim; you need some sort of plan or strategy.
In established businesses this is rarely an issue. I’ve seen thousands be spent just to make a process slightly easier.
I’ve also found that if you join a startup on the ground floor you can really have an impact on its future. An individuals role is generally more flexible, meaning you get to try your hand in various areas. Marketing one day, financials the next.
That’s why I will always choose to work in a startup over a big business.
Knowing you can help shape a company for the better is worth more than a bigger salary in my eyes.
